Thanksgiving Turkey Craft and Keepsake

Have you ever placed Fall leaves between wax paper, ironed them, and then cut them out?  This was a fun craft most of us did as a child to preserve the pretty leaves we found out side.  Today I want to show you another way of doing just that, but just a little different.  We did this in our Fall lessons for homeschool. This craft can go along with learning all about Fall or Thanksgiving.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Soft leaves that have turned color

  2. Printer Paper

  3. Crayons or Color Pencils

  4. Laminator with Laminating Sheets

Instructions:

  1. Warm your laminator up.

  2. Take the printer paper and draw around your child’s hand making the body of the turkey, and add your child’s name and the date.

  3. Have your child color the body of the turkey, and draw the eye, legs, and gobbler ( officially called a Wattle ) you can add that in as a lesson if you want.

  4. Pick out about three leaves and cut the stems off. If you don’t have leaves download the color page below and color your own.

  1. Place the paper in the laminating sheet.

  2. Add the leaves to the turkey tail, and place them where you want them.

  3. Now for the somewhat tricky part, hold the laminating sheet carefully and somewhat tight placing it in the laminator.

  4. Watch for your turkey to come out of the other side of the laminator, but not grabbing too soon becuase it is still hot. ( My daughter loved this part, kids are fascinated by laminators, I am too though. Ha! )

  5. Enjoy looking at your finished turkey.

My daughter loved doing this simple, but fun craft. I loved it because I get to see her little hand and artwork, and I get to hang it on the wall.

I Periscoped about this craft, the video is attached below. If your not following me on Periscope please do so you won’t miss a video.  If you see me talking to people on the video it’s because I am. With Periscope you can interact with live viewers, if your a homeschool mom you will want to checkout homeschoolscopes.tv for more scopes from homeschooling families.

You can also watch all of my past Periscopes on Katch.me/futurehopecom

I hope you find sometime each day to have a little fun doing something creative. Children thrive off of being creative. It gives their mind a free place to think and just have fun without stress.

Do you have special crafts you make each year with your children for Fall or Thanksgiving?
