When you think of summer camp, you probably think of bunk beds, outdoor activities, indoor arts and crafts, and lots of fun for your kids. This is definitely included in most camps, but there are some that are a little more specific in what they offer. Here are some different types of camps to send your child to that are a little different from the “traditional” summer camp.

Themed Summer Camp

The first type of camp you can send your children to is a themed summer camp. These allow your child to enjoy different activities than what a traditional camp provides, but still has all the same fundamentals.

For example, you can send them to a technology-themed camp where they will spend all indoor time at camp learning more about computers and technology in general. They should still have plenty of outdoor fun with their new friends, so there is no need to worry all their time will be spent indoors. But it is a great way for them to learn something and enjoy the theme at the same time.

Educational Summer Camp

You may also want your child to learn things they might not necessarily by interested or proficient in, but will help them throughout the rest of their school years and into adulthood. For example, there are math and science summer camps that teach these vital subjects with interactive activities indoors and outdoors.

The camp counselors will integrate math and science into every single activity they participate in, from bird watching and hiking, to indoor crafts.

Fitness Summer Camp

Some summer camps are related to fitness, whether it is for kids who might be overweight, to camps that are simply for kids who enjoy more physical activity. This theme is good for any kid that wants or needs to be more active.

While there are some indoor activities, the majority of activities and games are outdoors. It includes walking, hiking, swimming, and other related activities.

Fitness summer camps not only help kids be more active and lose weight, but it can help them build a strong foundation for a healthy body.

Art and Fashion Summer Camp

For the kid that is more on the creative side, there are art-inspired summer camps as well. These may include fashion camps, writing camps, arts and crafts camps, and drama and theater camps.

If your kid joins one of these camps, they will use nature as a way to inspire their art, whether they are learning to write short stories, putting on a play, or painting a landscape during the summer camp. These tend to be shorter camps, such as taking place over the weekend.

Consider your child’s special interests, needs, and strengths when deciding what type of summer camp to send them to. Involve them in the deciding process as it helps them to really enjoy their time at camp!
